The Netherlands is once again one of the happiest countries!!

The World happiness report was first released in 2012, and since then it has steadily become a very important measure of social progress and the goal of public policy.

The Scandinavian countries usually top the list. This year its Norway in number 1, followed closely by Denmark, Iceland and Switzerland. Then its Finland in 5th and the Netherlands in 6th! The United States was high in the rankings about 10 years ago but last year it had sunk all the way to 19th place. This is largely due to a decline in social support and a decrease in public trust. It is for these same reasons that Northern Europe is fairing better.

China’s happiness levels haven’t really increased in the last 25 years despite steady economic progress. In fact their happiness levels went down after the 1990’s and only recovered to those levels recently.
